-- Richard Wagner to Mathilde Wesendonck I grew up in the countryside of Finland, as the second and last son of a housewife (Seija Sinikka, born Kiuru; RIP) and a farmer (Eino Erkki; RIP). After my "Abitur" (high-school diploma) and the service in the Finnish army I moved to Otaniemi to do my M.Sc. grade at the Helsinki University of Technology in the Laboratory of Physics, and finished in aD 1993. The following Autumn I had the opportunity to go to Fritz-Haber-Institut in the lovely Berlin, Germany. Then I phad the pleasure to stay one year in Rome working at La Sapienza with Giovanni B Bachelet, and continued to Bayern (Bavaria) to the Rechenzentrum Garching der MPG (Computing Centre of Max-Planck-Society). There the trip continues to MPI für Festkörperforschung to have fun (i.e. work) in the department of Michele Parrinello and then with his group in summer aD 2001 to CSCS/ETHZ. Next I worked at the University of Zurich with Jürg Hutter at the Physikalisch Chemisches Insitut. In January aD 2005 I moved to Paris to work with Francesco Mauri at CNRS/UPMC. My BIGBIGBIGBrother, Mika, spent a year in the UK and some years at Sarawak, Malaysia, and returned to Finland to teach people to use PC's; now he has co-founded a company FC Sovelto.
